Things to do

From World Class fly-fishing to mountain biking and cross country skiing on unlimited miles of spectacular trails (to reading a good book in an Adirondack by the stone riverside fire-pit :)) the options are only as limited as your imagination at the Cheat Mountain Club. The expansive lawn and easy flowing river offer an afternoon of swimming and sunning or playing a classic yard game with family and friends: volleyball, horse shoes, badminton, croquet, kickball, Indian-ball or maybe even a game of  "spike" or "ultimate!"

Just a short drive (or walk if you take the Cheat Mountain Salamander) are four of the most renowned historic railway excursions in America: The Cass Scenic Railway and Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroads which include the Durbin Rocket, The Tygart Flyer and the aforementioned Cheat Mountain Salamander. Nearby wilderness areas abound as well including: Spruce Knob, High Falls of The Cheat, Seneca Rocks, The Greenbrier River Trail, Dolly Sods and the Gaudineer scenic area. Want to explore even more rivers? The Tygart, Elk, Greenbrier, Cheat, Laurel Fork and Jackson Rivers are all a short drive (less than an hour) away. Snowshoe Resort is just 45 minutes to the west and offers some of the best downhill skiing on the east coast in the winter and premier golf and music festivals in the summer. The National Radio Observatory in Greenbank is only 25 minutes away and offers a uniquely educational visitors center and hourly tours of the largest fully steerable radio telescope on Earth.

So exercise in the great outdoors to the fullest or relax by the river or in our cozy great room by the fire until your heat's content - there's never a bad day at the CMC!
